The company is engaged in the promotion, installation, maintaining solar thermal and other renewable energy. It was founded in 2008 from the alliance between SENER Grupo de Ingeniería, SA, a leading Spanish multinational technology (owned 60 percent of the company), and MASDAR, alternative energy company Abu Dhabi (owns 40 percent). Its registered office is located in San Jose Del Valle, Spain. The company focuses its activities on the development, operation and maintenance of plants in southern Europe, North Africa, Middle East and southwestern United States. In southern Europe the company's goal is to promote the construction of new CSP plants; as well as develop a CSP plant in Abu Dhabi. In the United States, the company also plans to establish partnerships with American renewable energy companies to begin development of CSP plants in the Southwest. The company operates in Spain three floors: Gemasolar 19.9 MW plant tower receiver technology, located in Fuentes de Andalucía (Seville); and Valle 1 and Valle 2, two plants of 50 MW parabolic trough collector technology located in San José del Valle (Cadiz).
